J. R. R. Tolkien loved to make up different languages; he also loved to make stories of fantasy. One of the languages he made up was Elven lettering and dwarfish lettering these are some names of these languages: Tengwar, and Angerthas. Later in his life he started writing something called The Lord of the Rings all three books were published around the same time period. The Fellowship of The Ring was published by George Allen and Unwin who published the books in London the year was 1954. The Two Towers was also published by the same people and at the same year. The Return of The King however was published in the year 1955 but the same people published it. "The Lord of the Rings must be the work of a total genius," quoted Unwin the publisher of the books. The books are totally amazing they have action and forgiveness and it has a great quest to destroy the One Ring. J. R. R. Tolkein said that there was no magic in the books. For if you remember the part where Sam thinks there is magic in Galadriel's Wood the elves just say that he could call it that if he liked. Now a lot of people think that Gandalf uses a lot of magic. But J. R. R. Tolkien believes that the power that Gandalf has is a gift from the God of Middle-earth. He also believes that Gandalf is like an angel who came to help destroy the Ring and to help the people on Middle-earth. He is called an Istari. J . R. R. Tolkien also made his books religious. The Lord of the Rings are mostly made for adults but The Hobbit was made mostly for children. He was a professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford, He met at a pub called Eagle and Child and he went there with a group of writers called the Inklings who went to the pup to discuss their work. The group included C. S Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien, Charles Williams and Orwen Barfield. J. R. R. Tolkien was a fellow of Perbroke College, and a fellow of Merton College until he retired in 1959. To me J. R.R. Tolkien is as amazing as his books are; he is truly admirable. But a sad thing happened in his life. He was sent to Bournemout hospital of pneumonia and died there with his son John Tolkien and his daughter Priscilla at his side the year was September 2, 1973 he was 81 years old. |
